A CNC internally driven CNC machine is made up of a computer which controls the movement of an engraved ceramic disc through a disc-grinder that is mounted on an internal, non-direct rotary shaft. The power source for CNC internally driven grinding machines is typically an electric motor with a direct-drive method. The CNC internally driven grinding machines are also called CNC direct drives or CD drives. Many hobbyists and machine shop owners have successfully used CNC machines to create intricate, fine detail jewelry designs.
CNC internal grinders are usually built around a potentiometer which measures the force exerted on the glass surface when the grinding tool is in use. This force is measured in “g’s” and is usually expressed as a ratio between the maximum and minimum pressure. This gauge will then be multiplied by the angular momentum of the grinder tool. This will determine the speed at which the CNC machine is able to move the discs at. Typically, the machines will operate at different speeds and the ratio of maximum to minimum pressure will change with these speeds.
An interesting characteristic of CNC machines is that they can be programmed in any fashion desired by the user. One way this is accomplished is via a computer numerical control (CNC) programs. The CNC program will control all the CNC machinery and its related equipment, providing the operator with a large palette of options for creating unique pieces of art. By simply programming a few commands into a CNC internal grinding machine, one could make a variety of precise products. It is even possible to program the machines to produce specific types of materials.
There are two types of CNC internal grinders that are available. The first type is the full CNC machine, which is like a desktop system for CNC machinery. The second type is a miniature CNC machine.
A full CNC grinding machine is similar to the full-sized version, except it does not use a computer. Smaller CNC internal grinders machine are called mini CNC grinding machines, and they are designed to fit within the confines of a certain work station or work space. The two types are similar in many ways, except for the fact that a small internal CNC grinder is often used in applications where a full size machine would be impractical, such as a mini CNC grinder being used in a mobile application. Either type of CNC machine can be used in a variety of applications and is often used in conjunction with a CNC router machine.
With the computer numerical controlled or CNC computer software of today, almost anyone can operate a CNC machine from their own home or office. The smaller CNC grinding machines were designed to fit into the smallest of places. Today’s CNC machines are as small as 5 inch widths and as large as 24 inches wide. This makes internal grinders ideal for companies who are on a tight budget, and who do not have the space to install a larger CNC grinding machine.
